Build a Spectator-Free Workplace™

Change. Sounds easy, but it’s tough to pull off without a solid game plan.
I’ve worked with many “change-challenged” businesses and organizations in my 10 years as president/founder of L.M. Dulye & Co. And I have some advice to share.

First step: Leaders need to get real. They need to establish an authentic voice in the workplace and coach their employees into a team effort which I call a Spectator-Free Workplace™.

So, how does a leader get everyone on board with a massive process change or culture change? How do you get people behind the effort without cynical second-guessers nay-saying from the sidelines? How do you turn employees into goodwill ambassadors?

Spectator-Free Workplace™ strategies will be at the core of a one-hour PRSA-hosted webinar which I’ll lead on Oct. 1. I’ll give some useful tips for effective two-way communications that spur engagement, empowerment, innovation and more. That ever-intriguing aforementioned “more” will include helping leaders find an authentic voice through “high touch over high tech.”

As I’ve noted in abstract materials, “Status quo is a dangerous concept.”

Why? A company that rests on its laurels will soon be overtaken by competition that pushes the envelope through innovation. Sustaining success hinges on collective actions of all employees.

Now, employers might think they have a great idea for change and innovation at the top, but do their employees agree? Are they excited about an initiative? Do they understand its purpose? Do they carry it forward because they really “get it” and want it to succeed? Are they a collective cheering squad for organizational success?

Often, what holds a company back is simply that employees don’t realize that they have a responsibility to have a voice in the workplace. Imagine the power-driving nature of a fully-charged workforce.

It’s not pie-in-the-sky. It’s achievable through a Spectator-Free Workplace™. For webinar information or registration visit: http://www.prsa.org/PDseminars/DisplayEvent.cfm?semId=409.
