You’ve toyed with the idea. You’ve thought of the professional satisfaction and the career rewards that could come from becoming APR. You’ve thought about the process and time commitment.
As one of the coaches for the Power Play, I recommend you attend the half-day APR Power Play on Sunday, Oct. 16, prior to the PRSA 2011 International Conference, and get lots of answers and conviction about the process to becoming APR.
I was thrilled to help design and present the first APR Power Play held at PRSA’s New York headquarters with Blake Lewis, APR, Fellow PRSA. I’ve been a co-presenter of this intense coaching program since it was added to each International Conference. Most importantly, I have seen how many of the participants used our coaching tips and techniques to be successful in attaining their APR.
The goals and content of the Power Play are designed to help those just starting their APR journey to understand the process, costs and study rigor of the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). We also will be providing tips on what books to buy, or not; how to prepare a portfolio for the Readiness Review; and how to get into the right “mindset” to take the computer-based Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations.
Joining me in conducting the coaching at this year’s Conference will be one of the original Universal Accreditation Board members involved in designing the new APR process, Deborah Saline, APR, Fellow PRSA. Power Play participants will benefit from her in-depth knowledge of how the process was developed and what outcomes are expected.
